XRF Sample Cups and Thin Films

XRF Sample Cups

Chemplex XRF Sample Cups are injection molded from a proprietary high-density polyethylene specially formulated for this application. The material is characterized with:

  • Low trace element impurities (typical Ca, Mg, Ti, Al, P, Zn in ppm).
  • Compliance with RoHS directive.
  • Chemical resistance from contact with incalculable sample material substances.
  • Physical resistance to thermal and irradiation exposure (melting point: 130 °C, softening point: 123 °C).
  • Lubricity to facilitate the smooth and firm attachment of window films.

Chemplex offers a choice of double open-ended cells which allow attaching the window films in advance and top sample filling.

For all nominal 32 mm diameter sample cups which utilize Snap-On Rings alternatively Snap-On Rings with serrated edges for trimming extraneous window film can be used.

Series 1000

Double open-ended or single open-ended cells. The window films are fixed with extra wide TrimLess™ Thin-film Sleeves designed to envelope and secure windows without trimming extraneous window film.

Single open-ended cells include external overflow reservoirs and puncturable ThermoPlastic™ seals for pressure equalization between the sample cup and sample chamber.

Series 1300

Double open-ended cells with re-sealable caps to equalize pressure differentials between the sample cup and sample chamber. Caps include external overflow reservoirs. The window films are fixed with Snap-On Rings assuring leak-resistant seals.

Series 1400

Single open-ended cells with option to accept capillary tubes containing standards or micro-samples. Cells include puncturable ThermoPlastic™ seals for pressure equalization between the sample cup and sample chamber. The window films are fixed with Snap-On Rings assuring leak-resistant seals.

Provided collars are optionally used to prepare micro-samples or evaporated droplet samples (“sandwiching” sample in between two window films).

Series 1500

Double open-ended cells with option to attach a microporous film to the back for pressure equalization in applications using inert helium flushes or vacuum. The window films are fixed with Snap-On Ring assuring leak-resistant seals.

Alternatively, to a microporous film uniquely vented caps can be used (see Series 1600).

Series 1600

Slit-vented cell caps used in conjunction with Series 1500 sample cups to maintain equal pressures and avert distension or convolution of the thin-film window under positive or negative pressure conditions.

Series 1700

Single open-ended cells for the preparation of micro-samples or evaporated droplet samples. The provided collars and Snap-On Rings allow “sandwiching” the sample in between two window films assuring leak-resistant seals. The cells include external overflow reservoirs and “Snap-Post” ThermoPlastic™ seals for equalizing pressure differentials within the sample cup and sample. Jiggling the integrated “Snap-Post”, which is attached to the ThermoPlastic™ seal ruptures the seal.

Series 1800

Single open-ended cells for the preparation of micro-samples or evaporated droplet samples. The provided collars and Snap-On Rings allow “sandwiching” the sample in between two window films assuring leak-resistant seals. The cells include external overflow reservoirs and puncturable ThermoPlastic™ seals for equalizing pressure differentials within the sample cup and sample.

Series1850

Single open-ended cells designed for instruments requiring an overall height shallower than conventional sample cups and a wide upper section. Cells include external overflow reservoirs and puncturable ThermoPlastic™ seals for equalizing pressure differentials within the sample cup and sample chamber. The window films are fixed with Snap-On Ring assuring leak-resistant seals.

Series1900

Double open-ended cells for the preparation of micro-samples or evaporated droplet samples for analysis in helium flush or atmospheric conditions. The provided collars and Snap-On Rings allow “sandwiching” the sample in between two window films assuring leak-resistant seals.

Series1935-OX

Designed specifically as replacement cups and vented caps for Oxford analyzers requiring the user supplied L240 aluminum sample holders with interior “O” ring seals (Oxford CK-100 Consumables Kit, P/N 54-CK-100).

Series2100

Double open-ended cells which integrate an internal overflow reservoir for collecting thermally sensitive liquid samples within the sample cup and thus reducing the likelihood of inadvertent spillage into the sample chamber. The reservoirs also serve as reference point for filling cups with uniform sample volumes.

The “Snap-On Cap" includes a vent hole for equalizing pressure differentials within the sample cup and sample. The window films are fixed with extra wide TrimLess™ Thin-film Sleeves designed to envelope and secure windows without trimming extraneous window film.

Series3100

Double open-ended uniquely designed cells for the preparation of powdered, solid or liquid micro-samples (0.2 – 5.5 cc).

The FunnelShape™ cell interior consists of a larger conically shaped upper portion, which facilitates sample introduction, and a lower cylindrically shaped spout, which represents the actual sample chamber.

The “Snap-On Cap" includes a vent hole for equalizing pressure differentials within the sample cup and sample. The window films are fixed with a uniquely designed collar.

Cells fit into nominal 32 mm diameter sample holders.

Window films - Continous rolls and Precut circles

  • Interleaved with lint-free tissue carriers.

SpectroMembrane Carrier Frames

Consist of a thin-film substance attached to a frame that serves as a carrier.

While fixing the thin-film substance to an XRF sample cup, the thin-film material is not directly handled and a contamination possibility is completely eliminated. Nearing or at the completion of attachment, the thin-film automatically detaches from the carrier frame leaving a taut wrinkle-free sample support window.

Available film materials:

  • Etnom®
  • Mylar®
  • Ultra-Polyester™
  • Prolene®
  • Polypropylene
  • Polyimide (Kapton®)
  • Polycarbonate

Microporous films

  • Gas permeable polypropylene membrane that enables the analysis of non-volatile liquid and powdered sample substances in helium flushes or vacuum.
  • Used in conjunction with the series 1500 XRF sample cups to equalize pressure differentials within the sample cup and sample chamber.
  • Available as continous rolls or easy-to-use precut circles

Snap-On-Ring fastener

  • Handy device for fixing window films to sample cups utilizing "Snap-On Rings".
  • Ensures taut thin-film sample support planes.
  • Eliminates Snap-On Ring misalignment.
  • Averts contamination by contact during assembly.
  • Allows uniform application of pressure.Accommodates all diameters.

Palm held fastener
